Formation Studio Balkanton was a group formed in 1974 by professional musicians trained at the Bulgarian State Conservatory. They even toured Scandinavia as the Free Sailing Band. Their first two albums contain pleasant instrumental symphonic rock (with lots of synthesizers and string ensembles), similar to PFM, Yes, Camel and Genesis. From the early 80's onwards they played commercial music bordering on disco, comparable to the Russian group Zodiac's album Disco Alliance.

1980 line-up:
The Crickets were the leading Bulgarian beat band of the 60's (formed in 1967 but having their roots in an earlier group named Bundaratsite). The group disappeared at the end of the sixties but reappeared in 1974 in a revamped line-up as Shturzite. Their albums contained heavy pop-rock (still influenced by Beatles) with nothing really special happening.
